Design Project Day # 5

Questions:

1.) What was the biggest problem you encountered? How did you solve it?
2.) When did you get your biggest "AH HA" idea? What was it?
3.) Who in your group resisted new ideas the most and why?
4.) What doubts did YOU have about the project and how did you overcome those doubts?
5.) Who in your group played "devil's advocate" (a person who questions everything, even good ideas) and how did that help the process?
6.) What did you learn about yourself, teamwork, and the design process?

Answers:

1.) The biggest problem we encountered I think was when we were cutting the holes in the top. Because, the cardboard was really tough, and I got cut with the scissors. But, we eventually overcome it, and we finally managed to cut open the holes up to a reasonable size.

2.) I think that my biggest "AH HA" idea/moment, was when we were making the back of the game, and we decided that the cardboard flaps on either side not be cut off, but to be used to support the cardboard with the holes in it.

3.) I think that the person who resisted the most ideas in our group had to be, Federico Acosta. Because, he was the one person who kept on saying, "but", and, "if we had this", kind of moments.

4.) I had a few doubts about the project when we put in the inner ramp, but we had not yet cut out the base hole yet. I overcame it, when we finally made some adjustments on where the balls were going to emerge after we threw them.

5.) I believe that the "devil's advocate" in our group, definitely had to be none other than, Juan Carlos Giraldo. Mostly because he also had the same, "but", and, "what if", moments, as well as Federico Acosta had them too. But, I think that his criticisms, actually managed to help us improve on our project/game, and make it better.

6.) I learned that during the making of this project, I was truly the "decision maker" on the team. Mostly because, I only questioned, on things that I was assure of. And I made the necessary propositions  in order to make this project run on smoothly.

I also learned that teamwork is very important when you are working as a team. Because if you don't have any teamwork while working in a team, then you don't have a team at all!

The design process took a while, and we sure had to end up discussing what our game was going to be like, but in the end, I think that our game came out how we wanted it too, and that the end result, ended up being, so so better than the prototype ever was!

Well, that's the end of this blog post! Until the next one! Bye!

Social Service Journals: Best Buddies

Day 1: Monday:

Today we went to our first day of social service. We went to a program known as Best Buddies, which is an organization that specializes in assisting kids with mental and physical disabilities. Today we went to the administrative offices of the organization and we began working on organizing the files of thousands of new inductees to the Best Buddies program. Most of them were adults who were looking for work there. It was fun looking at their resumes, and commenting on how they drew in their tests. The first day, was a lot of fun.

Day 2: Tuesday:

Today we went to the same administrative offices, and we repeated the same filing process. It was funny to notice on how many adults have failed their WAIS exams. WAIS is an intelligence exam for adults. It measures where your intellectual range is.

Day 3: Wednesday:

Today we finally went to the Cepytin organization that has the kids with the disabilities in association with the Best Buddies Program. It was an hour and a half long bus ride, and we kind of got lost along the way, but in the end it was all worth it. The kids we met were so happy that we came, and we introduced ourselves and played with them all day.

Day 4: Thursday:

Today we went to Cepytin again, and we taught the kids there how to say specific foods in English. It was a lot of fun, and it was a very exciting experience too! There was this one kid, Miguel, who ended up acing the word ham, over and over again! He was just amazing!

Day 5: Friday:

This was sadly the final day at Cepytin, but we taught the kids there how to draw, make paper airplanes, and play with play dough  They had lots of fun! But in the end we said our goodbyes, and we left! And in the end  even though we came from different worlds, we are not so different after all!

Well, that's the end of this blog post! Until the next one! Bye!
