Social Service Journals: Best Buddies

Day 1: Monday:

Today we went to our first day of social service. We went to a program known as Best Buddies, which is an organization that specializes in assisting kids with mental and physical disabilities. Today we went to the administrative offices of the organization and we began working on organizing the files of thousands of new inductees to the Best Buddies program. Most of them were adults who were looking for work there. It was fun looking at their resumes, and commenting on how they drew in their tests. The first day, was a lot of fun.

Day 2: Tuesday:

Today we went to the same administrative offices, and we repeated the same filing process. It was funny to notice on how many adults have failed their WAIS exams. WAIS is an intelligence exam for adults. It measures where your intellectual range is.

Day 3: Wednesday:

Today we finally went to the Cepytin organization that has the kids with the disabilities in association with the Best Buddies Program. It was an hour and a half long bus ride, and we kind of got lost along the way, but in the end it was all worth it. The kids we met were so happy that we came, and we introduced ourselves and played with them all day.

Day 4: Thursday:

Today we went to Cepytin again, and we taught the kids there how to say specific foods in English. It was a lot of fun, and it was a very exciting experience too! There was this one kid, Miguel, who ended up acing the word ham, over and over again! He was just amazing!

Day 5: Friday:

This was sadly the final day at Cepytin, but we taught the kids there how to draw, make paper airplanes, and play with play dough  They had lots of fun! But in the end we said our goodbyes, and we left! And in the end  even though we came from different worlds, we are not so different after all!

Well, that's the end of this blog post! Until the next one! Bye!
